Course Policies
Please read these policy statements, so that there will be no surprises
during the semester.
- Attendance
- Lateness Policy
- Grading Standards
- Accommodation: If you have a learning disability or any
other special need, please contact me and we can discuss how I can
help you..
- Snow Policy: If for any reason a class is not held at the
assigned time, all work scheduled for that day is automatically
rescheduled for the next scheduled class period. Any projects,
assignments, or homeworks due on a missed day become due at the next
scheduled class period. Similarly, any tests scheduled for a class
period which is not held at the assigned time will be given at the
next scheduled class period. Severe computer outages (all computers
down for more than four hours) will be treated as snow for the
purposes of rescheduling homework assignments using the computer.
- Retaining Graded Work: I make every effort to ensure that
the grades I have recorded for you are accurate, but occasionally I
make an accounting error or a typo. These errors can always be
fixed, as long as you have kept your graded work (test, program,
homework, or whatever). You can just show me the grade written on
it, and I'll correct my records. You should hang on to your work
until you get your final grades for the semester from the
registrar.
- Collaboration: Usually, students are expected to work
independently on projects and assignments. However, in some cases,
certain assignments will be designated for working in groups. For
these assignments, each group will turn in one assignment with all
names of the group members on that assignment. Unless you are
explicitly told to collaborate, you are expected to work
independently.
- Academic Honesty: Most students are honest, and I don't
expect to have to bring anyone to the general judiciary. Generally
speaking, you should help one another to learn the material, but you
may not "collaborate" to the extent that one person is getting
answers from another. There are gray areas where these become hard
to distinguish, but the best rule is whether you could ask me the
same question and get an answer, or whether you could "collaborate"
in the same way with me.
