CS110 Presentation Evaluation (100 points)
Content (30 points)
Your talk should not only tell us the features of your website, but
also the design decisions you made and why. Tell us about
client's goals and target audience, the requirements that were made,
and how you met those requirements. What alternative designs did you
consider, and why did you reject them? For example, if you used
frames, why did you do so? If you didn't use frames, why not? Why
did you choose the colors you did and so forth. Also, you should give
a reasonable tour of your site. You need not show us everything, but
you should choose a reasonable "path" through the content without the
audience getting lost.
Manner (40 points)
Your talk should be presented well. Here are some criteria:
- eye contact (10 points): do you look at the audience, or just at your
notes or even just at the screen? Audiences like it when speakers
pay attention to them.
- elocution (10 points): do you speak clearly and loudly enough to be heard
in the back? Do you mumble? Do your words tumble out in a rush?
Do you use pause words such as "um" and "like" too much?
- demeanor (10 points): Do you seem relaxed and confident, or do you fidget or
giggle with nervousness? Do you get stiff and frozen?
- pace (10 points): does your talk take the right amount of time, finishing
neither too early nor running over (or getting cut off)?
Coordination (10)
Do you and your partner share the stage well, each getting a
chance to speak? Do you make smooth transitions from one to the
other?
Structure (10)
Your talk should have a conventional structure with a beginning,
middle and end. At the beginning, you should introduce yourselves,
say who your client is and what the website is about, and generally
prepare your audience for what is to come. At the end, you should
thank the audience for their attention and respond to any questions
there may be.
Technical Stuff (10)
Your website should work, or, at the very least, your audience
should be unaware of any problems. Therefore, you should make sure
you don't follow any broken links, show any broken images, and the
like. In short, avoid the land mines. Also, you should make sure
you've tested your site with the platform and browser you intend to
use. It's a good idea to clear the cache and history when you start,
to ensure that things start fresh and all the links appear to be
new.
