How to download images from the Internet
There are many images on the Internet available for downloading. Before you copy an
image from somebody's page, please make sure that copyright is not violated. You will
discuss the issues of copyright in the lecture. Respecting copyright is very important:
to ignore copyright is not
plagiarism, it's stealing. We'll have a longer discussion about copyright at a later date, but for today,
we'll say that you can make a copy of a picture that is not (1) for sale,
(2) a logo, or (3) other valuable property.
In this document we describe how to download an image on a Mac only, things might work
differently on a PC, but will be similar.
There are two ways of downloading an image:
- Place the mouse over the image and drag it onto the Desktop. This is easy, but it
creates a file with the same name as the one used on the web page, which may be inconvenient,
especially if the file was called something like picture9.gif (it's not a very
informative name).
- A better way:
