After This Semester

The site will be on the CWIS server at Wellesley College and will be maintained by someone designated by IRC.

Site's Goal

The main goal is to provide the Wellesley College community information concerning IRC and the International Relations major. However, we would also like to make the site as fun and appealing to visitors as possible, so that the IRC can both entice prospective members and foster further interest in IRC, in its events, and in international relations in general.

The Audience of the Site

For the International Relations Council website, the intended audience will be the students of the Wellesley College community. Since the site will be linked to the Student Organizations section of the Wellesley website, the average user will typically be a Wellesley student interested in getting involved on campus. As the site has two main purposes, one being to inform the students of the IRC organization, and the other to inform students of the IR major, the site will tailor itself to encompass the needs of those students who are looking for either one or both purposes. Namely, this site is appropriate for all Wellesley students, especially since it is an organization that is open to everyone. The site will also consider that students with reading disabilities may also use the site, and be designed accordingly.

The Content of the Site

Since this is a student organization site, our website will reveal a simple homepage with a large central image, and possibly a few graphics that will make it obvious to the user of what the organization is about - in this case, international relations. Thus, possibly a picture of a globe, the UN Council, or many different flags will suffice. The homepage will also include small blurbs of recent news of the club to give an idea of what types of events the IRC is involved in. There will be a navigational tool that will link every page to every other page of the site. The following describes the different contents that will be covered by the site, yet the formatting of the contents into separate pages is subject to change. However the following is a tentative description of each page:

A Missions/Goals page will be available to clearly inform the user of the organization's main purpose. The IRC Constitution will be linked as an option for those who may want to know specifically how the club is organized.

An Officers page will reveal photos of every current officer with information stating their names, positions, interesting personal facts, etc. This page is meant for contact purposes as well as for light humor through the blurbs of personal facts, funny pictures, etc, to encourage students that this organization is fun and made up of exciting executive board members.

A page of upcoming future IRC events with detailed descriptions of each event will most definitely be included, possibly using a calendar to outline the events.

A separate page will be dedicated mainly for photos of various events, with detailed captions.

In order to fulfill our other goal of the site, to be of guidance to those who might possibly want to major in International Relations, an entire page will be devoted to informing the user of the major's requirements, which are actually very extensive. A link to the IR Department's website will be included for further information of the major.

Another section would contribute several links of possible interest. Examples would be other IR-related sites and even other colleges and/or universities' IR-related sites and relevant calendars.

In addition, a section will include information relevant to further IR-related studies beyond Wellesley (i.e. graduate schools), as well as to careers in international relations. This section would help students think about IR-related possibilities beyond Wellesley.

A study abroad section will give accounts and/or relevant photos pertaining to international travel or even domestic travel if it relates to international relations. This section would also help students get a glimpse of different directions they can take in their exploration of international studies.

Finally, we will be sure to link to the International Relations Council Journal or IRCJ, another organization on campus concerned with international relations.
