Lumberjack Summer Camp

What:

A ten-week NSF-sponsored summer research experience in deforestation. Deforestation (also known as fusion) is a program transformation technique for improving the time and space efficiency of modular programs by automatically eliminating intermediate data structures from them.

When:

Thursday, June 1 -- Friday, August 4, 2000.

Where:

Wellesley College Computer Science Department

Who:

A team of faculty and student researchers from Bates and Wellesley Colleges.

Faculty
Patty Johann (Bates)
Franklyn Turbak (Wellesley)

Students

Kirsten Chevalier (Wellesley)
Nausheen Eusuf (Wellesley)
Kate Golder (Wellesley)
Holly Muenchow (Wellesley)
Chris Staecker (Bates)
Aaron Wheeler (Bates)

Why:

  1. To develop state of the art techniques that encourage the use of modular programming by reducing its inefficiencies;
  2. Because undergraduate research in computer science opens minds and doors --- to graduate study and/or careers in industry;
  3. Because writing programs that transform programs is way cool.
