Teaching Interests

Before coming to Wellesley in 1995, I taught in an Electrical and Computer Engineering curriculum with a focus on signal processing. Here at Wellesley I typically teach the hardware related and introductory courses:

• CS110 Computer Science and the Internet
• CS111 Computer Programming and Problem Solving
• CS240 Introduction to Machine Organization with Laboratory
• CS341 Operating Systems
• CS349 Advanced Computer Organization and Design

Research Interests

Identification and characterization of software errors, mechanisms for tolerating and recovering from software errors, methods for and architectures for increasing reliability of software. Control systems, optimal control, reliable control. Recovery mechanisms for control systems.

Opportunities for Students

I am always happy to work with a student on any project or topic that may interest her. Some projects and independent studies that I've supervised in the past include:

• Operating system curriculum development
• The study of the relationship between gender and video games
• The development of an interactive storytelling toy
• The design of a graphical user interface for decoding and processing rocket flight data
• An independent study of an introduction to circuits
• An independent study of the history of computer hardware
• Advanced computer organization and design curriculum development

Personal

I spend most of my spare time dedicated to caring for my three young daughters. I also enjoy reading, cooking, walking, running and swimming. A former competitive swimmer, swim instructor and lifeguard, I have taught, and continue to teach, my children how to swim. Just recently I've returned to a passion of my youth - playing Scrabble. My current high score for a single word is 140 points (arranger - across two triple word spaces).
