Digital Threats to the Film Industry

We are conducting a semester-long project to investigate the impact of the internet on the film industry, particularly with regard to the prevalence of Netflix, and digital piracy. We want to investigate how people choose to access movies, and how that has changed over time. DVD rental systems have already been rendered obsolete. Does the same fate await movie theaters?
