The goal of our project is to design a computer mouse which acts in some ways like a real mouse, yet retains its ability to be a functioning computer mouse.

The moving mouse was built by Kate Golder and Monica Aufrecht in the Robotic Design course at Wellesley College. In the Robotic Design course Franklyn Turbak and Robbie Berg teach students to design, build, and program their own robots.

This particular robot was inspired by the word-play of a computer "mouse." Built to house a regular computer mouse, Mighty Mouse looks, acts, and moves in imitation of the small animal while still controlling the pointer on the computer screen. Although our particular robot is more for fun than practicality, the concept of a computer mouse that could navigate on command could be used by individuals who face physical difficulties in moving the small object by hand. (Or it could be used to scare the neighbors.)
