In building our miniature car wash we wanted to mimic real-life and somehow involve soap. For our purposes, real soap would not work, but we thought that having a mechanism that could blow small bubbles into the car wash would work well by creating the effect of the car being soaped. We first tested a couple of different bubble wands and experimented with creating motor-powered Lego fans that could blow bubbles out of these wands. However, every fan we tried to build was much too weak to blow the bubbles. Finally we decided to use a small personal fan to do the blowing, and instead of using bulky store-bought bubble wands we built our own bubble wands out of some household wires. The way that this bubble-blowing mechanism works is that the wand is essentially a lever arm that is powered by a motor at one end. The wand moves down into a cup of soapy water and as it moves back up the fan blows air into the wand, blowing bubbles into the car wash.
