In most real car washes your car is put into Neutral and it is pulled along a set of tracks. To recreate this mechanism we made our own set of tracks using Lego chains and gears. The first track we built was a very long chain that seemed to snap unpredictably and sometimes under pressure. We then modified the track so that instead of one long chain, the track consisted of three shorter chain-and-gear systems. To help the car move along the track, we glued small Lego pieces evenly spaced along each chain. These pieces served to catch the wheel of the car and pull it along the car wash.
