Hippos!  The infrared started the hippo- that car pictured at right would move forward to strike a touch sensor, which connected to a third Handy Board which then launched...
The elephants!  As soon as the elephant sequence was done, the alligators and then the final combination scene would start.  That is the end of the programming.
We freely admit that a LOT of work went into The Project.  Julie and Helen spent countless hours building and rebuilding various mechanisms that would become the characters in this silly ballet, and Karen toiled to draw these characters, under the supervision of a very wise and helpful artist-in-residence/dormmate/good, good friend.
To convey the image they wished to depict, the three students put the utmost effort into integrating the best of their programming knowledge with the best of their artistic talents.  The results are what you see above, to the right, and below.
