Coach John Maida started the NE Blizz orginally with Varsity level teams that only competed regionally. In the Fall of 2011, Coach Chris Fraioli started a 6th grade NE Blizz team. This is a National Elite team. In their most recent season (Spring 2016, 10th grade), the NE Blizz accomplished the following: AAU Division 2 Super Regional Champions, AAU Division 2 State Semi-Finalists, Zero Gravity Nationals Runner Up, and AAU Division 2 Nationals 10th place finish. In Fall 2016, the NE Blizz expanded to include the following boys teams: 7th, 8th, 10th and 11th grades.
The NE Blizz philosophy revolves around the phrase “NO EXCUSES, NO REGRETS." Players are expected to give maximum effort to everything we are doing. NE Blizz teams are expected to pay attention to the little details and fundamentals of the game as they often times can be the difference in the game. NE Blizz teams are expected to not only play hard, but also to play smart, and play together. Physicality and toughness are a MUST, and that is something demanded of NE Blizz players every single day.
As creator of the NE BLIZZ AAU Basketball Program, my goal was and still is to provide an opportunity for kids to not only have fun playing basketball but be coached at a high level in addition to getting a chance to play basketball at a very high level. I coach one of the 7th grade teams, the 10th grade team and one of the 11th grade NE Blizz teams. My goal is that the players become stronger and smarter basketball players with each practice and each game.
I coach to make an impact on the lives of the young men that I work with. I want to make them better basketball players, but more importantly, better people. I have loved basketball my entire life, and sharing that love and passion for the game with my players is something that I truly enjoy doing each and every day.
