Robotic Design Studio:
Robotics, as we more commonly call it, is a class that is offered at Wellesley College during Wintersession, a three-week term held in January. It can be taken as either a Physics or a Computer Science class, as it is cross-registered with both departments. Because of this, Robotics is taught by two Wellesley faculty members, Professor Berg from the Physics Department and Professor Turbak from the Computer Science department. The class uses Legos (yes, the childhood toy), miniature computer handy boards, and a host of clever sensors, gears, and gadgets to create robots.
Our Final Assigment:
For the last half of the course, we students worked in groups to create a robot project of our own invention. Basically, we wanted to create a contraption that had some kind of behavior, so we could show it off to our friends at the end of Wintersession. We were encouraged to use our imaginations to conceive of something really cool to try to invent in a week and a half. Here's the idea that we came up with!
