Our racecar was one of the larger projects we had to do before our final project. It had to be robust enough to carry a 1 kg weight and a handyboard while it ran the race, and we were only allowed to use one motor. The motors we used had no internal gearing, so the torque was very low. We had to create gear chains to get enough torque to actually move the car. The gear chain we had can be seen below. After we all had cars built, we raced them. The winning cars all had similar gear ratios - 15 and 27 were the most popular. Our poor little car had a gear ratio of 47. Not very fast, but it could pull it's weight! |
