The Stair-Climber
"It's a dud, I guess." -the goose
Had we settled on this particular design, we would have created a robot that climbed stairs. This was way more difficult than it sounded at the time. We abandoned this project due to severe problems with the gear train after about half a week's worth of work.
The Frog
"Roll it away and add it to that nasty collection of yours." -the goose
This robot was a variation of the stair-climber. Before taking up residence in The Dump, the Ribbot lived in our minds and design journals as a versatile construction with three main parts. It would have had front legs, hind legs, and a body, which would have contained the Handy Board. This idea proved even more tedious than the stair-climber, and it too departed to its current home.
The Display Robot
"Templeton had a habit of picking up unusual objects." -E.B. White
Had this robot been completed, it would have earned itself a permanent home in a display cabinet in the Science Center here at Wellesley. We planned for it to be a multi-talented creature- it would have been capable of smiling, waving at passers-by, and playing a short recorded greeting and a song. Unfortunately, as we were planning the display robot, we were struck by a sudden inspiration, and from then on devoted our class time to our beloved Charlotte.
