Tegan Cohan

Greetings, and welcome to my bio page. I've never done anything like this before, and it makes me giggle. *hee hee* You see, I'm an Independent Theatre Studies major here at Wellesley College, more accustom to hanging from my toenails 100 feet in the air adjusting heavy lighting equipment than struggling to configure the perfect gear train. But, I'm giving it my best shot. Let me introduce myself properly now...

My name is Tegan Ashton Cohan, and I'm from San Diego, California. I'm 21 years old (I just had my birthday on Jan 24th!), and I'm a senior. I decided to accelerate a year and join the class of '98, because I need to pursue a year of intensive classical theatre training before I hit the streets of Chicago. I'm currently waiting to hear word on a Fulbright application to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, where I hope to study next year. I've been doing theatre for most of my life, in fact...it is my life. It is my passion, which makes applying myself to something so linear as programming a robot extremely challenging. However, robotics is not without its dramatic flair. Much like piecing together a production, the various elements of the whole must be painstakingly constructed before they can be incorporated into a finished product. Additionally, improvisation has played an important role in the creation of our robot witch. When something doesn't work, go ahead and try a new approach. So, engineering and theatre are really not all that different in many regards.

Let me extend an invitation to the Robotics Design Studio '98 Reception, as well as the upcoming productions of "Antigone" and "The Children's Hour" being presented by the theatre community on campus. "Antigone" runs Feb. 12-15 at 8:00, with a matinee on the 14th at 2:00, in the Shakespeare House. "The Children's Hour" will go up in late February. I play the sociopathic 14-year old trouble maker...hmmm, type cast, ya think?

Well, I guess that's me in a nutshell. Of course, I don't mean literally. However, Hamlet did say "I could be bounded in a nutshell and count myself a king of infinite space, were it not that I have bad dreams....." Deep.

You can choose to live the life of the artist, or to live artistically. My joy is living both....

Thanks,

Tegan
