2019 Blocks & Beyond Workshop Program

This full-day workshop was held on Friday, October 18, 2019 at the Fedex Insitute of Technology on the University of Memphis campus in Memphis, TN, USA.

Note: Because it is rare for so many members of the blocks programming community to be in one place, we also planned some informal gatherings and meetups at meal times.

The main workshop activites took place in the Fishbowl 203/205 Rooms at the Fedex Institute of Technology.

The workshop format and schedule was designed to encourage discussion amongst the attendees:

• Four workshop talk sessions included position statement talks (7 minutes each), short paper presentations (10 minutes each) and long paper presentations (12 minutes each), followed by a discussion with the audience.
• Four 40-minute blocks playground sessions involved presentations of demos and posters. About half were associated with workshop talks and the other half are not.
• There were two VL/HCC Blocks Showcase Invited Panel sessions in which seven invited panelists who are co-authors of VL/HCC 2019 papers relevant to Blocks and Beyond gave 10 minute presentations of their work. These werebe followed by a discussion with the audience.
• The hashtag #blocksbeyond19 was used to post updates on Twitter. We also used a shared Google Doc to collect Questions and Notes for the talks.

Conversations will continue on this day among some participants, possibly over breakfast or lunch or at the Use this Doc to coordinate.
