Foundations of Computer Systems

Acknowledging the local and global challenges surrounding our new learning circumstances, our tentative goal is to cover 2/3 of the remaining ideas and 1/2 of the remaining course work from a typical CS 240 semester, running at a somewhat slower pace. We will play this by ear, adjusting to circumstances as they arise. Here’s a summary of the current plan:

• Lectures: watch topic videos, read, try examples, and ask/answer questions on the Q&A forum ahead of time (policies), then follow up in real time during optional online class drop-in meetings.
• Labs: do lab assignments and watch intro videos ahead of time, then participate in real-time online pair lab activities during scheduled lab meetings.
• Meeting Links: review the norms for audio/video meetings to keep meetings manageable.
• Tools: install the csenv appliance ASAP (large download).
• Textbook: now available online at no cost.
• Support: try these resources in order.

  2. Visit the Q&A forum to ask and answer questions. (Policies)
  3. Visit drop-ins or make an appointment for online in-depth support.
• Grading: credit with distinction/credit/no credit.
