What is Academic Decathlon?

Academic Decathlon is a high school academic competition in the US. Every year, students compete in ten different events spanning many academic disciplines and all related to one theme. The competition consists of seven multiple choice tests in:

In addition to these seven tests, students must complete:

all of which are graded by judges. High schools that participate in Academic Decathlon compete in teams. Each high school has a team that consists of nine members, who are divided into three categories based on grade point average:

Team members competes against other students in their division.

USAD, the non-profit organization that organizes the competition, awards gold, silver, and bronze medals for individual events and overall scores. USAD calculates team scores by using the top two overall individual scores from each team in all three divisions. Teams must advance through local, regional, and state competitions to earn a spot at the national competition in April.
