USER INTERVIEWS
We interviewed several users from our user population of college students looking for a community.
Takeaways
User 1 : Education providers need to consider not just how to administer education given
the current situation of the world, but they also need to consider the diverse
environments that students live in(ie home conditions, financial situations, family
and household sizes, distractions that could deter their learning experience etc).
User 2 : The online learning experience demands different requirements compared to in-person
classes and poses many new problems. For example, lack of motivation, distractions
by technology, and disorganization, and difficulty with interacting with students
can make learning difficult for traditionally successful students. User 2 has been
using technology a lot more since online learning. This may be due to boredom but also
can be a coping mechanism for loneliness (social media). However, technology also allows
User 2 to stay connected with friends that she can't see.
User 3 : User 3 believes that joining a community is what makes the 'college experience'.
She is a senior and explains that there are senior traditions that she will not
fully experience because of the pandemic/ current situation such as convocation,
hoop rolling, and etc. She also explained that she wanted to join an on-campus coop,
but it's almost impossible now. A recurring theme in this interview is the longing for
community.
